Evaluating our Work

A Study of the McKnight Arts Program: Executive Summary

In 2008, The McKnight Foundation engaged the Center for the Study of Art and Community to help evaluate McKnight's ongoing role in the development of Minnesota's cultural resources. In mid-2009 the evaluation was completed, and resulted in a new goal for our arts program and new strategies to support it.

We are pleased to now share the executive summary of the evaluation and the resulting revised program guidelines.

The Center based its recommendations on extensive research into our state's unique cultural context and more than a year of interviews with over 150 artists, arts professionals, community leaders, and funders statewide and around the country. Although our new guidelines don't reflect every recommendation proposed, our board of directors' final decisions were profoundly informed by the Center's research and insights.
