An online database of Minnesota artists from all disciplines mnartists.org offers Minnesota-based artists a central gathering place on the Internet. Plans call for it to become a marketplace and community hub—giving the public a new way to explore art and get to know artists. In addition to providing each artist with their own webpage of images and information, mnartists.org will present news and features about the local arts scene from a variety of sources.
The Foundation developed mnartists.org as a result of its 1999 "Cost of Culture" survey of Minnesota artists, the results of which, 6 Questions/2,430 Answers, are available online. The survey revealed the economic survival struggles of individual artists. The McKnight Foundation partnered with the Walker Art Center's New Media Initiatives group to develop mnartists.org.
