Grantee Profile
St. Paul Riverfront Corporation
The St. Paul Riverfront Corporation (SPRC) was founded in 1994. What originally started as a modest effort to redesign a section of St. Paul's downtown riverfront in a way that connects residents to the Mississippi River has grown, over time, into a coordinated effort encompassing the entire 17-mile length of the river that borders the city’s western edge.
Drawing on the creativity and insight of community stakeholders, the award-winning "St. Paul on the Mississippi Development Framework" was crafted in the first years of the organization's existence. The framework is not a plan or a study, but rather an ingenious vision, three years in the making, based on tenets of city building and guiding principles, that articulates a strategy for redevelopment of the downtown riverfront, central business district, and surrounding areas. A plan guiding future work, the "Great River Park Master Plan," was recently adopted.
SPRC's projects, all of which further the overall goal to create interconnected urban villages nestled in a reforested river valley, are carried out through its three discrete and complementary arms; the Design Center, Public Outreach, and Special Projects.
