Goal: We use our resources to foster women's social and economic empowerment in Tanzania and Uganda.

McKnight's East Africa grants program seeks to increase women's access to skills and economic opportunities that will help them gain greater control over their lives.

In addition, the program tries to help women participate more fully in their households and communities as equal decision-makers.

In 2006, our East Africa program awarded about US $1.4 million to projects that support this goal.

NOTE: Currently, McKnight is reviewing our program in Uganda and Tanzania. Throughout the review, we will not accept new letters of inquiry; we will, however, maintain ongoing commitments to existing grantees in both countries.

As available, we will post information about the latest program developments here.
