Regional Economic Development Group
In 2004, with the Blandin Foundation, we helped launch a public-private partnership called the Regional Economic Development Group (RED Group). This partnership seeks to create wealth in Greater Minnesota by aligning economic development resources regionally throughout the state. Organized around the six Minnesota Initiative Foundations, which have identified the distinctive competencies and comparative advantages of each of their regions, the partnership hopes to reduce competition between regions and help each region leverage its unique assets to help create individual and community prosperity.
In addition to engaging local partners in this work, the RED Group has encouraged statewide institutions-including the state Department of Employment and Economic Development and the Minnesota State College and University system-to organize their resources using this regional approach.
