Culture, Race, or Ethnicity

Asian American or Pacific Islander
People who identify with one or more nationalities or ethnic groups originating in East Asia, Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent. Examples of these groups include, but are not limited to, Chinese, Filipino, Asian Indian, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Pakistani, Cambodian, Hmong, Thai, Bengali, Mien, etc. or people who identify with one or more nationalities or ethnic groups originating in Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, or other Pacific Islands. Examples of these groups include, but are not limited to, Native Hawaiian, Samoan, Chamorro, Tongan, Fijian, Marshallese, Palauan, Tahitian, Chuukese, Pohnpeian, Saipanese, Yapese, etc.

Black or African American
People who identify with one or more nationalities or ethnic groups originating in any of the Black racial groups of Africa. Examples of these groups include, but are not limited to, African American, Jamaican, Haitian, Nigerian, Ethiopian, Somali, Ghanaian, South African, Barbadian, Kenyan, Liberian, and Bahamian.

Hispanic, Latino/Latinx, or of Spanish origin
People who identify with one or more nationalities or ethnic groups originating in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Central and South America, and other Spanish cultures. Examples of these groups include, but are not limited to, Mexican or Mexican American, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Salvadoran, Dominican, Colombian, Guatemalan, Honduran, Spaniard, Ecuadorian, Peruvian, Venezuelan, etc. If a person is not of Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin, answer “No, not of Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin.”

Native American, Indigenous or Alaska Native
People who identify with any of the original peoples of North and South America (including Central America) and who maintain affiliation or community attachment to a nation, tribe, or band. It includes people who identify as Native American, Indigenous, American Indian, or Alaska Native includes groups such as the Navajo Nation, Blackfeet Tribe, Mayan, Aztec, Native Village of Barrow Inupiat Traditional Government, and Nome Eskimo Community.

Two or More Races
People who identify with two or more racial/ethnic identities.

White
People who identify with one or more nationalities or ethnic groups originating in Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa. Examples of these groups include, but are not limited to, German, Irish, English, Italian, Lebanese, Egyptian, Polish, French, Iranian, Slavic, Cajun, and Chaldean.

 

Sexual Orientation

Bisexual
People who have the capacity for attraction—sexually, romantically, emotionally, or otherwise—to people with the same and different genders and/or gender identities as themselves.

Gay or Lesbian
People who are emotionally, romantically, and/or physically attracted to people of the same gender.

Heterosexual
People who are emotionally, romantically, and/or physically attracted to a person of the opposite gender.

Queer
An umbrella term for people who do not identify exclusively as heterosexual, may include people who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, asexual or a fluid sexual orientation.

Gender Identity

Cisgender
People whose current gender identity is the same as the sex they were assigned at birth.

Genderqueer, gender expansive or nonbinary
People with an expanded notion of gender expression and identity beyond what is perceived as the expected gender norms for their society or context; or people who identify as neither, both, or a combination of male or female.

Transgender
People with a gender identity that does not necessarily match their assigned sex at birth or who transcend conventional expectations of gender identity or expression; including, but not limited to, people who identify as transsexual, genderqueer, gender variant, gender diverse, and androgynous.

Person with a disability

People who have a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more major life activity(s); a record of such impairment(s); or is regarded as having such impairment(s). For purposes of this definition, people with disability(s) are substantially limited if they are likely to experience difficulty in securing, retaining, or advancing in employment because of the disability(s).

Veterans

Disabled Veteran
People who served on active duty in the U.S. military and are entitled to disability compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to disability compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, or were discharged or released from active duty because of a service connected disability.

Other Protected Veteran
People who served on active duty in the U.S. military during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge was authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.

Recently Separated Veteran
People separated during the three year period beginning on the date of their discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military.

Armed Forces Service Medal Veteran
People who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, participated in a U.S. military operation that received an Armed Forces service medal.
